5 Newbies

Just as I thought…breakfast has gone back to the sweet side.

For two days in a row I’ve been eating:

1 barbaras shredded wheat puff + 1 weetabix + 1 chocolate pb muffin + 1 serving true vitality chocolate protein powder + unsweetened almond milk + 1 T peanut flour

Did you know that weetabix in the US is distributed by Barbara’s bakery?? I’ve been eating it for years and I JUST realized it! No wonder I like it so much. Barbara has great taste :)

And theres a chocolate flavor?? – why have I not been aware of this?

I learn something new everyday.

Speaking of new…I love trying new things, and recently I’ve come across quite the smorgasbord of new things. Some that I love, some not so much.

1) endangered species chocolate

I came across this sweet treat at Whole Foods. Usually I don’t really eat the items they put out for you to taste, but since it was free chocolate I kind of just had to. Plus it was in a wrapper. I’ll be the first to admit it – I’m a total germaphobe. Who know’s where people hands have been when they reach into those sample bins of fruit and chips??

I now have a whole bag of these chocolates on my kitchen counter.
That’s how good they are! They have them in actual bars size too and I really want to try the golden berry and lucuma bar, but the individually packaged ones are good for passing out on Halloween…and for me to practice single-serving self control. ;)

And for those of you who are vegan or gluten free, you can eat them too! They’re all certified vegan and gluten free.

2) Multi-Green kombucha

Ok, so I’m not new to kombucha, but this is a new to me flavor.

I’m not really sure why I never tried it, but I actually like this one a lot more than a couple of the other ones I’ve tried. It’s not as sweet and it’s the first one that didn’t explode on me in a while.

3) Tera’s Whey

I’ll admit it. I got suckered into buying this partly because of the packaging. It looks good, right? And for $4 bucks an ounce, it better be good!

The verdict?
belch.  Not a fan at all.

I guess I just can’t get over the taste of stevia.
I should’ve known since I’m not a fan of Jay Robb’s or Sunwarriors powders, since they both contain stevia of some sort, but of course I didn’t learn my lesson the first two times.

3rd times the charm? Lets hope the lesson has been learned here – No more stevia protein powders for me.

4) Spiru-Tein

After being unable to find my favorite protein powder multiple times (how many times can one protein powder be sold out?), I settled for this one. It’s quite similar in taste. A little sweeter maybe? I guess it’s nice to change it up every once in a while though.

But yesterday I went to WF’s again and guess what I found after a month of searching??

Last one on the shelf. So of course I had to buy it!

Spiru-tein may have just earned a spot on the back shelf for a while…

5) kiwi berries

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I bit into one, but I was legitimately surprised to see that it looks exactly the same as a kiwi on the inside!

Just a miniature version.

And it tastes just as it sounds – like a kiwi mixed with a berry.
Let’s just hope I’m not allergic to these since I’m allergic to actual green kiwis.

Now it’s your turn! – Have you tried anything new lately?

WIAW # 7: Hong Kong Edition

Happy Wednesday!
We’re this much closer to the weekend!

Peas and Crayons

I believe this is my first WIAW outside the states.
Lets get movin!

Pre-Workout:

 1/3 of an apple
[no pic]

Lately I’ve found that eating a couple bites (apple, a couple walnuts, some toast…) before working out gives that extra kick of energy I need.

Today was weights day.
My favorite!

Post workout:

Chocolate Protein
[1 packet true vitality chocolate + 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk + 1/2 cup water]

Anddd, pancakes!
I’ve been on a pancake roll lately. Can’t get enough of them!

[1/2 cup kodiak cake mix + 1/2 cup water]

Today I kept is simple by just topping them with some honey almond butter and strawberry jelly.
Doesn’t the jelly look like it’s arm around the almond butter, hugging it?? I’m telling ya…match made in heaven.

On a side note, I should probably work on getting my pancakes the same size… and perhaps the same color.
One step at a time.

Mid-Morning Snack:

So remember how I made some pumpkin quinoa the other day? I still had 2/3′s of a can of pumpkin sitting around and as much as I wanted to just trash it, it just seemed like too much of a waste.

So I thought I’d try making something I might slightly enjoy.

Pumpkin Spice Latte
[anything with coffee in it, I'm game]

I have to say Averie sure knows her stuff.
Anyone who is a pumpkin fan, I highly recommend checking out her recipe!

And I also had a slice of my current favorite snack:

Cheese and Jelly Toast

[strawberry jelly + 1 slice laughing cow cheese + toasted slice of  sprouted whole wheat toast]

The cheese slightly melts into the warm toast and goes perfectly with the strawberry jelly.
Soooo good.

Lunch:

Since it’s my last day here I needed to use up some of my produce stat.

kabocha squash + button mushrooms + carrots

20 mins in the oven and lunch was ready.

Plus some bread from one of my favorite places!

Always perfectly soft and chewy

One
cheesy tapioca roll

Look how soft and pillowy inside!

and one
chocolate chip tapioca roll

All washed down with these fellas:

Sparkling water and malted soy milk

Late-Afternoon snack:

A snack bag of baked cheese puffs

Dinner:

One of my favorites!
Japanese.

Lots of sushi and sashimi were eaten.
So much that I only managed to take a grand total of 2 photos.

Ever seen fruit sushi?

 I haven’t! It was interesting.

So, that’s what I ate today!

Lastly a BIG thank you to our lovely hostess Jenn!

What’s your favorite cuisine?? -
Mine are Japanese and Italian, but a lot of the time I prefer my ‘homemade’ cuisine :)

WIAW # 5: Ready in 5. Or less.

I thought I’d take a slight break from Bordeaux [see previous days 1, 2, 3 here] and join in on some WIAW fun today :)

Peas and Crayons

[Thanks Jenn for hosting!! :) ]

Everything I ate today was basically ready in under 5 minutes. And not on purpose.

This morning I started with half a banana before heading off to my Wednesday cardio strength class, which ended up being AWESOME.

After class I chugged a pb + banana+ chocolate protein smoothie.

I used the remainder of my banana from earlier this morning, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 packet chocolate true vitality, 5 ice cubes, and 1/2 tablespoon peanut flour.

My official BREAKFAST was a waffle a la kodiak cakes.

Drizzled with manuka honey.

I don’t think I’ll ever tire of waffles. They’re just that good.

Then it was time for some school-ing…

and munching…

I may have had a few too many of these dark chocolate dipped rice cakes.
My excuse: they were mini

Then it was time for LUNCH. YAY :P

On the menu:
tuna
refried beans
corn cakes
hummus
tomatoes
avocado

That can only mean one thing:

BUILD YOUR OWN CORN CAKES!

Yes, i see that my lunch came out of cans, but it’s alright every once in a while. Plus the convenience is just too awesome.

I bought these corn cakes in France and love how perfectly thin they are. Perfect for piling on the toppings.

I mixed the tuna with some hummus and piled it on top of the corn cakes with some avocado and tomato slices.

Dessert was just as fantastic.

I sliced up part of an apple and banana

Added some sunbutter+almond milk

Mixed it all in and stuck it in the microwave for 20 seconds (x’s 2)

and Voila!

Okay okay, so it tastes a whole lot better than it looks. I promise!
And it’s guaranteed to satisfy that sweet tooth.

But of course I still had a couple chocolate cat cookies a little later on ;)

I ate a bazillion of these. Seriously, I don’t think I can buy them anymore.
I can’t stop eating them!

Sweet > Savory
always :)

Then DINNER!

Roasted up a diced sweet potato sprinkled with paprika, cayenne, and a touch of cinnamon in the oven
[okay this may have taken slightly more than 5 minutes - but I don't count the roasting time]

Mixed it with leftover tuna from lunch, squirted on some ketchup and mustard and it was ready.

Again, tastes a lot better than it looks!

Dessert was something that I’ve become slightly obsessed with over the past couple days.

Baked Microwaved Apples

I diced up an apple, sprinkled it with cinnamon, ginger, and a touch of paprika

Then put it in the micovwave for 30 seconds (x’s2)
Sprinkled on some almond meal.

Perfectly warm and delicious. AND tastes like fall :)

Speaking of fall…

We’re only two days away from the first day of Autumn!

So…enjoy these last couple days of summer!!
