WIAW #4 – Home edition

Evenin’ Oaties!

I finally made it home yesterday after many many hours on the road. Too many and boy am I glad to be back and eating the foods I love. Road trip food is fun to eat – to an extent. Then you just start missing your usual foods from home.

So without further ado here’s what I ate Wednesday!

[Thanks for hosting Jenn!!!]

Peas and Crayons

I made sure to get up early this morning to make it to the gym for a cardio strength workout class. After sitting in the car for almost 2 days I wanted nothing more than to get in a good sweat sesh.
Mission accomplished.

After my workout and a quick shower, I had just enough time to blend something up before heading off to my eye appointment. Actually I was totally late to my eye appointment, thanks to my shake. But it was totally worth it :P

[8 ice cubes, 1 packet chocolate protein powder, 1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk, 3/4  cup unsweetened almond milk]

After my eye appointment and a couple errands, it was lunch time!

My dad had a strawberry waffle at the waffle house yesterday morning on our drive home and I wanted one for myself so that’s exactly what I had. And mine was wayyy better. Just sayin’ ;)

[kodiak cake mix + strawberries mixed into the batter - topped with more strawberries and a drizzle of manuka honey]

Lunch was followed up by snacks of all sorts.

[chocolate cat cookies]

[sliced bananas with a dollop of sunbutter]

[a couple strawbs from the tub]

[roasted tea]

[chocolate fudge pop]

Then came dinner. Finally.

[brown rice, sea bass, sautéed spinach, tofu, massaged kale, beets, roasted cauliflower, white beans, mushroom, and cherry tomatoes]

Followed up with a a handful of cherries from this bowl.

And a block or two [or three...] of dark chocolate.

[the one on the right]

Now I’m off to unpack my duffle, finish up laundry, and pack up my suitcase because tomorrow I’ll be off once again!

Sooo behind on school+readings+hw thing and must get working on that too.

Best thing you ate today??

Mixing Things Up

3 ways I’ve been mixing things up lately:

 # 1

This morning, after many many weeks of skipping out, I finally decided to go to a Zumba class. I’ve been meaning to go for a while now, but every week I’ve been changing my mind and going to the same flexible strength class come Tuesday. I thought it was about time to go, so I hopped on the Zumba wagon this morning and won’t be looking back.

Even though I have absolutely no beat whatsoever and can’t pick up steps to save my life, I have to say I had a lot of fun. Sometimes its just fun to mix things up and try something new.

# 2

Something I probably won’t be ditching anytime soon is my now daily smoothie. I haven’t become tired of mixing up these daily concoctions yet, but who knows. Next week I could be tired of smoothies and moved on to burritos or something…

But just as I had mentioned yesterday…

Chocolate is back in my life today!

Chocolaty-peanuty goodness. No stevia added ;)

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who finds it odd tasting. I prefer to go the more natural route and sweeten smoothies and/or desserts with fresh fruits. Fruits are natures original form of sweeteners after all :)

Plus its a great way to save ripe fruit from going bad. Which seems to happened in my house quite often.Whenever I have fruit sitting in my fridge that is on the verge of going bad, I’ll just cut it up and freeze it. That way I always have a sweetener available.

Whatever freshly frozen fruit I have in my freezer is what I use to add a touch of sweetness to my daily smoothies. This morning it was strawberries and cherries. Plus i’ve found that freshly frozen fruit is always sweeter than the pre-packaged fruits we purchase from stores.

# 3

I know I’m kinda late to the party, but look what I received yesterday!!

My sweet neighbor, whom I’ve mentioned before – the one who brought over a delicious strawberry bread and homemade jam – came over with that magic bullet in tow yesterday.

I.was.esctatic.

Although I already have a vita-mix, I’ve really been wanting a magic bullet for a while. Sometimes the vita mix (no hard feelings vita!) is just too large and it gets hard to blend up small amounts of food. I can’t wait to play around with the magic bullet!

Have you tried anything new lately?

Do you Zumba?

Do you own a magic bullet? What’s your favorite thing to blend up?

Welcome!

Well hello there!

Welcome to my new humble abode!

It’s always exciting to move. Even if it’s just virtually. I spent most of my day tidying up and re-decorating the place for y’all ;)

I know there are still some things that need to be done (like re-loading some missing photos) but I hope it’ll be all done soon.

I got off to kind of a late start this morning when I hit snooze one too many times and then eventually accidentally hit the ‘ok’ button instead of snooze, which turned off my alarm. Luckily my internal alarm woke me up about 5 mins before I needed to be on my way. I quickly got up, brushed my teeth, washed my face, threw on my workout clothes and headed to they gym just in time for my Monday morning ‘strength stability stretch class’.

I love getting workouts done in the morning.
1) It wakes up my muscles and makes me feel active the rest of the day.
2) I don’t have to think about working out the rest of the day.
3) They pass by quickly because I’m so excited to go home to eat breakfast.

Once I got home I made myself a smoothie with a new strawberry protein packet I’ve been meaning to try out.

What? No chocolate? Yeah, I figured I should probably try something new. Don’t worry though. I’m sure chocolate will return tomorrow :)

1 packet strawberry whey protein+ 1 cup unsweetened almond milk + 5 frozen strawberries + 1/2 frozen banana + 5 ice wedges

equals

HUGE strawberry banana milkshake

(this bowl x’s 2)

After my first taste I actually didn’t want to eat, er…drink, any more because there was such an overwhelming stevia taste. I’ve never really been a fan of stevia, but since I didn’t want to waste it I went ahead and kept eating. Eventually I got used to the stevia taste and it ended up tasting just like a strawberry banana milkshake.

There’s just something about stevia that just makes my tastebuds retreat. It’s almost like a sickeningly sweet feeling. I think I’ll just be sticking to my favorite protein powder from now on.

Ok, I think I’ve spent enough time on the computer/blog today. Apparently I still have many glitches to work through so I’ll try to get to those soon.

Do you like the taste of stevia?

What time do you usually work out at?
