confused stomach

Aloha!

I don’t think my body knows what time zone its in since I’ve been in 3 different time zones in the past 4 days.

First Hong Kong was +15 hours from Texas, then daylight savings happened and it became +14. Then I went back home to Texas on Monday, managed to flip my time back and now I’m in Hawaii which is -4 hours from Texas.

Sleep-wise, I’ve been doing alright – other than getting extremely sleepy around 8pm and getting up at 5am, but I think what’s most confused is my stomach. I’m hungry alllll the time. Or at least thats what it feels like.

I’m always ravenous when I wake up.

So this morning I turned to a cup of greek yogurt.
Greek yogurt and I have been on the outs for a while (kind of like overnight oats).

But it’s slowly finding its way back into my diet.

First I added some greek yogurt to half a papaya and topped it with some granola.
[The sun wasn't up yet when I took the photos, hence the artificial lighting]

Then I added a small sliced banana, a little granola for some crunch, and a sprinkle of peanut flour to the remaining yogurt.

Totally hit the spot.

Eventually the sun came up and after finishing some school stuff, I headed over to the beach for a walk.

I ended up running a little bit, but walked the majority. About 5.25 miles total?

It’s so fun to walk here because the weather is always perfect and the scenery is gorgeouss.

Rainbow of the day!

I also like the fact that I can watch surfers while doing triceps dips on the benches.

Then I just sat and enjoyed the cool morning breeze before heading back.

After my walk I was hungry again. So I headed to lunch. Or rather breakfast since it wasn’t even 10am yet.

Who can say no to TWO breakfasts in one day?
Not me, thats for sure.

Ultra fluffy tomato+bell pepper+mushroom egg white omelette with brown rice and whole wheat toast
from Kaila Cafe.

I love that they offer brown rice everywhere on this island.

After breakfast number two I continued snacking my day away while doing errands and such.

And now it’s already 9:50pm and time for bed!

What’s your favorite way to eat yogurt?

Fresh From The Farm

Afternoon oaties :)

How is it already 5pm?? It feels like I just had breakfast not too long ago…

I hope everyone had a wonderful fathers day yesterday!!  I had a pretty blah morning/afternoon since I’ve been spending my time catching up on reading and hw assignments.

Fun stuff I tell you.

I brightened up my afternoon yesterday with a colorful lunch.

Romaine, bell peppers, guacamole, hummus, and a whole slew of whole foods cold bar leftovers – balsamic tofu, mushrooms, beets, forbidden rice, eggplant.

And a pretty peach.

Then I proceeded to bake up another batch of tropical papaya muffins for my awesome dad with some papayas I brought home with me from Hawaii.  Technically we can’t bring ‘whole’ fruits back to the mainland (other than pineapple) with the whole agriculture rules and such, but if you cut it up and bring it home in a soy yogurt tub like me, than you’re good to go :)

After my muffin fail on Saturday, I kinda had to redeem myself with new muffins.  And with muffins I knew would be actually turn out :)

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This morning I got back into my normal exercise routine with a 15 min interval run/warm-up on the treadmill followed by my usual strength stability stretch class.  I was actually quite pleasantly surprised when my warm-up run seemed a tad easier than normal. I haven’t been on a treadmill in over a week and been doing my runs outdoors.  I guess running outdoors does that to you?  I don’t know what I did, but I’m liking it!

I was ultra stoked for breakfast this morning because my neighbor brought over some fresh farm eggs from her daughters farm last night.

How cute is her label?  I’ve never tried fresh eggs before and these eggs were quite the beauties.

My question is…Why are farm eggs all different colors while the eggs I get from the grocery store all one color – either white or brown?

I guess I could stop my pondering and just google it.  Nah, maybe later…

Anyways, I cooked one up this morning. (the speckled one to be exact).

Two slices of cinnamon raisin ezekiel bread.

One with peanut butter, jelly, and banana slices.

The other with the egg.

Both were delicious.

The rest of my morning/afternoon were again pretty ‘blah’. I’m still working on an operations management assignment about business flows thats due tomorrow night by 11:55am. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I was right there with you until about 3pm yesterday.  Yes, I am a ‘bit‘ behind.  Can you tell? ;)

So tell me, Where do you get your eggs from?  And are they multi-colored or all just one color like mine?

Blame it on the Bieber

Gah, I can’t keep my eyes open and there’s still plenty of daylight left and so much to do.

I blame my lack of sleep on Justin Bieber.

It probably wasn’t the best idea to stay up watching ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ on my redeye flight home last night/this morning. I wanted to sleep, but since it was playing on all the screens it was hard not to watch. Plus I’ve heard so many great things about it I had to see for myself. That is one talented kid, I tell you.

I finally got home around breakfast time and cooked up a bowl of oat bran topped with frozen strawberries and peaches and some tropical papaya muffins and jam.

Frozen fruits are perfect oat companions during the summer time because it’s wayy too hot to be eating a steaming hot bowl of oats.  I like the hot&cold contrast of the oats and fruit.  (And they also work because there was no sign of any fresh fruit at the casa this morning).

The papaya muffins were a nice addition to my usual bowl of fruity oats. I realized today that the papaya muffins have more of an cinnamon-y oat bran/carrot cake taste to it than actual papaya.  Maybe that’s why I like it so much??  I guess the papaya acts more as a moisture agent towards the muffins than giving it a full on papaya taste.

This week passed by way too quickly and I’m kinda sad I didn’t get to do everything I had intended to.  Especially one of my favorite things, stand-up paddling.  Guess I’ll be sure to make time for it in August when I go back.

And because it’s Friday

IN:

Tejas

As much as I’d still rather be in the Aloha state, I’m going to have to embrace TX and all its 100 degree heat.  But only for another week and a half!

Scuba Diving

I passed my test (!) and am officially certified to scuba dive in open water with or without an instructor.  I don’t think I’ll ever be diving without an instructor though. The underwater world is a whole different land and there’s no way I’m prepared to go without someone familiar with the water and area.

OUT:

Scenic Runs

This is part of the route I run whenever I’m in Hawaii.  It’s breezy, gorgeous, and so calming in the mornings. The closest I’ll be to any water these days are morning sprinklers.

Pinkberry

This was my pre-flight snack yesterday and so not what I had expected.  Is it just me or is Pinkberry’s fro-yo slightly chalky tasting. I’m more of a Red Mango fan.

I would say TGIF, but I’m really not all that glad it’s Friday today. It means I only have a day and a half left to get the majority of my assignments done before they’re due on Sunday. Thats what I get for slacking all week…

I attempted to get some work done this afternoon, but no such luck. I actually fell asleep for about 30 mins at my desk and woke up extremely groggy with a crick in my neck. Gotta blame it on the Bieber ;)

Have a great Friday :)
